Biomass

Filtrex’s entry into the biomass industry was a natural progression from the dust extraction and filtration side of our business.

Many of our customers particularly those in the woodworking industry had large amounts of wood waste following the filtration process.  It was often a problem for them to dispose of this.

Filtrex looked for solutions and installed our first wood fired boiler system in a woodworking factory, which heats our customer’s factory and spraying line.  Since then we have gone on to install many of these boilers which work very successfully nationwide.  We also install wood fired boilers for customer’s who do not have their own waste, and are most recently working on a wood fired boiler to heat a hotel, who will buy in wood pellets.

For customers who do not wish to burn their waste shredding and briquetting are other possibilities.  We have installed these solutions for many of our customers and most recently designed, supplied and installed a dedicated wood briquette manufacturing facility.

Wood waste in not the only form of biomass and Filtrex looks at solutions for the different industries we serve who have waste product.  Our business is now growing to also service companies who want to set up briquetting as a stand alone project and we are currently involved in looking at briquetting straw.

Sustainable Energy Ireland is the government body set up to deal with alternative energy supplies such as biomass.  Grants are available through SEI for biomass boilers under the ‘Renewable Heat Deployment Program’ (ReHeat) and Filtrex have already assisted customers to obtain grants.

Where customer are setting up biomass manufacturing facilities the Local County Enterprise Boards offer financial assistance on a project by project basis
