Filtrex’s entry into the biomass industry was a natural progression from the dust extraction and filtration side of our business.
Many of our customers particularly those in the woodworking industry had large amounts of wood waste following the filtration process. It was often a problem for them to dispose of this.
Filtrex looked for solutions and installed our first wood fired boiler system in a woodworking factory, which heats the client’s factory and spraying line. Since then we have gone on to install many of these boilers which work very successfully nationwide.
We also install wood fired boilers for customer’s who are interested in moving to a more sustainable way of heating and don't have access to their own fuel. Wood Chip and Wood Pellet are the most popular forms of wood fuel on the market today. There are many considerations in choosing a biomass boiler but the priority must be what fuel is to be burned and where it is sourced.
Grants were available through SEAI for biomass boilers under the ‘Renewable Heat Deployment Program’ (ReHeat). Filtrex assisted customers to obtain grants and now offer a start to finish solution from initial consultation and design to supply, installation and final commissioning. Filtrex can even supply fuel or operate the boiler on a per kWh basis, where the client only pays for heat generated.

Filtrex specialises in renewable energy systems and is one of Ireland’s largest suppliers of industrial and commercial biomass boilers and is approaching 10,000kW of installed systems.
Filtrex was established in 2002 and our first sale of biomass boilers was in 2003. In 2004 we installed our first turnkey biomass project. In subsequent years, Filtrex has grown to become one on the leading biomass boiler suppliers in Ireland.
Filtrex has supplied more than 10% of all boilers installed under the SEI ReHeat programme.
Filtrex specialises in industrial and commercial applications and have biomass installations ranging from 90kw to greater than 1MW. Our experience ranges from complete design and feasibility studies to supply, installation, commissioning, maintenance and servicing.
Filtrex is unique as we can offer a complete package for a biomass installation with fuel storage technology, fuel conveying systems, large range of boilers suitable for all installation, balanced flue systems, cyclonic fly ash separation and ash removal, electrostatic filters systems on larger installations.

Filtrex are agents for a number European boiler manufacturers including:
- Endress for industrial & commercial applications from 60kW to 3MW
- Herz for industrial and commercial applications from 20kW to 500kW
- Linka for industrial commercial and agricultural applications from 100kW to 5MW
Endress Has recently introduced the USF - SR biomass boiler designed to burn a wide range of fuels such as sawdust, wood-chips, wood pellets, chipped waste wood, wood nuggets up to a 50% moisture level.Click here to download this brochure: Endress USF – SR100
In 2006 the government made grants available, though Sustainable Energy Ireland’s Re-Heat Deployment Program, to businesses wishing to reduce heating costs and lower their carbon footprint. Following the introduction of the grants Filtrex have used our knowledge of biomass boiler to expand into the commercial sector.

For customers who do not wish to burn their waste shredding and briquetting are other possibilities. We have installed these solutions for many of our customers and most recently designed, supplied and installed a dedicated wood briquette manufacturing facility.
Wood waste in not the only form of biomass and Filtrex looks at solutions for the different industries we serve who have waste product. Our business is now growing to also service companies who want to set up briquetting as a stand alone project and we are currently involved in looking at briquetting straw.
Sustainable Energy Ireland is the government body set up to deal with alternative energy supplies such as biomass. Grants are available through SEI for biomass boilers under the ‘Renewable Heat Deployment Program’ (ReHeat) and Filtrex have already assisted customers to obtain grants.
Where customer are setting up biomass manufacturing facilities the Local County Enterprise Boards offer financial assistance on a project by project basis
